Strategic Guidance
The AM CoE organizes targeted workshops to allow experts to discuss the needs of the AM community. These workshops gather perspectives, recent achievements, and current challenges from industry, academia, and government. They also provide a forum for experts in the AM community to discuss standards gaps and potential solutions.
Findings from these events are published by ASTM AM CoE as roadmaps and strategic guides to align community activities around standards. To be notified about opportunities to participate and be the first to read our strategic guidance.
Advanced Technologies for Digitalization of Construction Industry Roadmap
ASTM International has developed a roadmap on digitalization of the construction industry as part of the NIST Advanced Manufacturing Technology Roadmap (MFGTech) Program. The roadmap identifies key technical challenges that, if solved, would encourage industry collaboration and transformative technology development to advance digitalization of the construction industry.
The roadmap focuses on eight advanced technologies with the potential to benefit the construction sector: additive manufacturing, robotics and automation, big data, internet of things, artificial intelligence, simulation, augmented reality, and cybersecurity.

Additive Manufacturing In-Situ Monitoring Technology Readiness
The In-Situ Monitoring (ISM) report results from the second specialty workshop organized by ASTM AM CoE. The workshop, conducted in collaboration with The National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and America Makes, aimed to explore the state-of-the-art monitoring technologies that facilitate rapid and cost-effective qualification and certification of additive manufacturing (AM) parts in a production environment.
The workshop brought together representatives from government agencies, research organizations, industry, and academia to discuss key topics such as approaches to AM quality assurance using in-situ methods, integration of ISM systems in AM production, and correlation of ISM data to AM material characteristics and traditional ex-situ inspection techniques.

Additive Manufacturing Data Management and Schema
The AM CoE, in collaboration with America Makes, has published the Strategic Guide for Additive Manufacturing Data Management and Schema. Based on the input from workshop participants, this guide provides insights on the challenges and gaps, and details proposed solutions and action plans for improving data management and use in additive manufacturing.

ASEAN Additive Manufacturing Standards Strategic Guidance Document
As one of the world’s fastest growing regions, Southeast Asia is primed to take advantage of new technologies to continue its economic and human development. As new manufacturing techniques like AM continue to rapidly evolve, the potential benefits for the countries of Southeast Asia, from higher tech jobs and more resilient supply chains to improved health and cheaper, safer manufacturing, could be immeasurable. To facilitate the adoption of AM technologies in the region, this report, produced by ASTM International – a leading developer of AM technical standards – with support from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, provides key strategic and technical guidance for the adoption of AM standards for ASEAN member states. The findings and recommendations contained in this report draw from interviews with AM standards experts and thought leaders in the AM industry from countries such as US, Singapore, Australia, Japan, UK, Norway, and Sweden, and include a comprehensive review of current and pending standards specific and related to AM technologies.
